Pandemic Panic!
The epidemic that is all over the world is having unusual effects in the US. It is trying to slow down the economy, but the DOW is climbing, the cars are moving, and life appears to be slowly returning to normal. If you look ANYwhere but in the headlines,, you see a population trying to live, to do life as they once did. Some people are hurting, some people are sick, but not nearly as many as are reported to be.
In March of 2020, downtowns were ghost towns, grocery stores were throwing up plastic as fast as it could come in, and people were being herded around pallets at Costco to get in. But here it is late July, the customers wear masks, and the traffic is back to normal. Everybody seems to say “yes, we’ll mask up, but WE WANT NORMAL BACK!”
Working from home is a pain to some, a pleasure to others. Out on the road, particularly urban expressways, it is a Godsend! With everybody checking in to work online, the snarl is reduced or gone. Air pollution disappeared over some large cities around the world. One thing it did was cut rush hour traffic back enough to allow for speedy movement all the way around town!
Being in an essential industry, I have kept on as usual with going to various sites to take pictures and collect information on various insurance clients. Restaurants were closed, but most other businesses, while showing the decline in sales, were trudging along.
Over the highways, particularly interstates, life is normal. There are just as many cars, RV’s and tractor trailers as there ever were. Gas has gone back up in price, but people take the price rise in stride, and keep on rolling. Pandemic had a novel effect four months ago, but America is tired of it!
You walk into a hospital or other medical or senior facility, and someone is there to take your temperature, throw a mask on you if you don’t already have one, and ask why you’re there. Everybody started out jumping around Mexican jumping beans, but now everybody is being just careful enough, and moving on.
Its time for the country to return to normal, just be careful! We can beat this COVID thing, we’ve gone through worse. It’s a strong world, strong country, so just calm down with the hype and get on with life!
